Te reo Māori

Te Reo Māori
This term we have been doing Te Reo Māori every morning. When we do this we start with a karakia then we do a waiata called E hara i te mea.

After we do that all we do twelve questions, here I'm only going to show you six, they are:

1. Ko te aha te rā inanahi?
What was the day yesterday?
Then you respond with:
Ko te (The day yesterday) te rā inanahi.
It was (The day yesterday) yesterday

2. Ko te aha tēnei rā?
What day is it today

Ko te (The day) tēnei rā.
Today is (The Day)

3. Ko te aha te rā āpōpō?
What is the day tomorrow?

Ko te (The day tomorrow) te ra apōpō.
It is (The day tomorrow) tomorrow.

4. Ko te aha tēnēi marama?
What month is it?

Ko te (The month) tēnēi marama

5. E hia ō tau
How old are you
This one is tricky because if you are 9 and under you say:
E iwa (or under) oku tau
but if your 10 or over the you say:
Tekau (or over) oku tau

Last but not least...

kei te pēhea koe?

Kei te (how you feel) ahau.

Thanks Laura:)

Makey Makey

Makey Makey

This term Room 18 did Makey Makey.
Makey Makey was a cool experiment that involved 7 alligator-clips 1 USB cord a device and a Makey Makey circuit board that looks like this....

How to use Makey Makey.
There is lots of different ways to use Makey Makey. Here are two ways the piano or pac-man. Before we start you will need a device that has a USB plug. We will start with the piano.

Step 1: Plug all the alligator clips into the Makey Makey circuit board and then plug the other end of the alligator clips to some oranges like this:

If you don't want to use oranges then you don't need to as long as it conducts electricity.

Step 2: Once you have done step 1 plug the USB cord into your device (That should have a  USB plug)

Step 3: Now you need to get the piano app. You can either search up Makey Makey piano and then find the website that looks like this

Piano - Makey Makey

or there is this website

Step 4: At the bottom of the Makey Makey circuit board will be a bronze rectangle that is labelled Earth. When you have got the piano app and you have done step 1 & 2  clip an alligator clip to the Earth rectangle and then squeeze the other end in one of your hands. Use your other hand to poke the objects that's connected to to Makey Makey and it should make a sound on your device.

Now for Pac-man
Step 1: First you need to grab a piece of paper and Led pencil (It has to be a Led pencil or else it will not work) and then draw a left arrow, up arrow, right arrow and down arrow and then draw little coming off them and going to the edge of the paper. It should look like this:

Step 2: Once you have done that you need to plug all the alligator clips into the Makey Makey circuit board and then plug the other end of the alligator clips to the little bit of pencil drawing that are connected to the Makey Makey circuit board.

Step 3: Plug the USB cord into your device and grab the pacman app or use this one...https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/23162018/

Good Luck!
